(AGI) - Tripoli, Oct 16 - "I'm convinced that gas will be big business for Libya in the future". Eni CEO Paolo Scaroni said this, commenting on the accord he just signed with the State company of the north-African country, the NOC, which foresees, among other things, in strengthening the development of the Libyan gas sector. "Europe is hungry for gas and has supply problems" the top manager added, "and Libya has just started exploration in this field and has enormous potential. It is an important agreement for Italy and Europe". More in general, Scaroni continued, the renewed contracts for gas and oil represent "a very positive conclusion" of the negotiations with NOC because "each time we set the conditions for a production increase is positive for the market's future, for our countries and for the energy industry. We are here to produce more". Scaroni also underlined Eni's social commitment in Libya donating 150 million dollars to the Qadafi Foundation, for various purposes like school programs, the modernisation of hospitals and archaeological projects. "We are convinced" declared Scaroni "that in the countries we are active in, we must be donators, besides taking resources". NOC president Shukri Ghanem said that the accord "gives life to a situation that is winning for both companies and that represents an important step for the relation between both countries. We wanted this deal" he underlined "one that lasts for a long time because it is satisfactory for both".
