Tripoli, Libya, 02/01 - The Libyan People`s General Committee in charge of Workforce, Training and Employment has requested illegal immigrants to leave the country by the end of February.
It said in a statement issued here Tuesday that those leaving the country before the 28 February deadline would not have to pay outstanding taxes, while those failing the comply would pay all taxes previously incurred during their stay in Libya.
The committee therefore urged all national and foreign business operators to immediately contact any employment office of the Workforce, Training and Employment Department in the various municipalities across the country to sort out their legal work contracts.
The Committee warned that any offenders, who may be caught without legal work contracts, and in breach of the health provisions in force, would be subject to the relevant legal sanctions.
The committee indicated that the new measures were intended to organise the national labour market, and to protect the interests of the national and expatriate workforce from unfair employment.
The statement indicated that breaches to such measures would be a threat to the interests of the public, business operators and expatriate workers.
