Japan's Mitsui Oil Exploration Co. said yesterday it has been awarded an oil exploration licence in Libya.
Mitsui Oil, 47.35 per cent owned by Japan's second-largest trading house Mitsui & Co, has won rights to explore oil in blocks of 201-1, 2, 3 and 4 jointly with Germany's Wintershall Libyen Oil & Gas GmbH. The Japanese company did not specify potential reserves in the blocks or how much it would invest in exploration work. Mitsui Oil plans to expand its business to Libya from its core oil and gas exploration business in Asia, which includes Thailand, Indonesia and Cambodia. |
