Project Libya, a major exhibition targeting two key areas of infrastructure and energy, will open in capital Tripoli on December 4.

Project Libya incorporates “Infrastructure Libya: Libya’s International Infrastructure and Building & Construction Exhibition and Forum; and “Energy Libya: Libya’s International Oil, Gas, Power and Renewable Energy Exhibition and Seminar.

Secretary for Housing and Infrastructure, Abuzaid Dorda, will inaugurate Infrastructure Libya and the chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC), Dr Shukri M Ghanem, will inaugurate Energy Libya.

The two exhibitions will run till December 7 at the Tripoli International Fairground.

Project Libya is taking place against a background of huge economic reform which includes the expansion, upgrading and modernisation of the country’s vital infrastructure and energy sectors. The exhibition will address Libya’s immediate priorities in terms of technological needs for the country’s national planning and future progress, said a spokesman.

Exhibits will include equipment, materials, products, technology, consultancy services and management capability appropriate to Libya’s prime sectors, including oil and gas, refining and petrochemicals, power and electricity, building and construction, transport and communications, water and irrigation, telecommunications, healthcare, education and training, tourism and commerce, he said.

Exhibitors are participating from many of the world’s major technology exporting nations including Britain, Italy, Russia, South Africa, Spain and the US, among others.

The British group of 20 companies will present a wide range of technology and expertise including desalination equipment, electrical equipment, manufacturing machinery for concrete pipes, design solutions, software packages, and training courses for industrial engineering, hotel management and post graduate study.

The US group of 30 companies will focus on the oil and gas sector with equipment for exploration, production and downstream technology and will feature prominent names such as Baker Hughes, Chevron, Hess and Solar Turbines.

The exhibition will be supported by a technical forum and seminar programme drawing on speakers who will present topical papers relevant to the infrastructure sector covering civil engineering, public housing, water and waste water treatment and tourism; and the energy sector covering exploration, new field development, IOR and downstream activities, said the spokesman.

Project Libya is being held under the Patronage of Dr Aisha Muammar Al-Qathafi, general secretary of the Wa’atassemo Foundation, and is open to trade and business visitors only.
